The Royal Hobart Hospital is Australia’s second-oldest hospital and first began serving the Hobart community in 1804. It also functions as a teaching hospital in co-operation with the University of Tasmania.
ROYAL HOBART HOSPITAL COVERAGE CHALLENGE
Staff at the Royal Hobart Hospital were experiencing connectivity issues as they moved between wards, the connectivity dropouts impacted their ability to function safely and efficiently.

THE SOLUTION
Multiple clusters of Cel-Fi Go repeaters were installed to provides a uniformed power distribution amongst all carriers.
The Blackhawk Parabolic Grid antenna was selected as the external antenna for this project to isolate the best quality signal and overcome the dense “noisy” environment.
The Blackhawk Omni Ceiling antenna provided consistently distributed mobile phone service from the Cel-Fi repeater, with a 360° beam width for complete internal coverage. The antenna is compact with a visually unobtrusive design similar to a smoke alarm.
THE BUSINESS NEED
Effective communication between departments can literally be the difference between life and death. With phase three of RHH redevelopment coming to completion it was identified that there were connectivity issues between wards that impacted the ability of staff to function effectively.
The decision was made to improve signal at the end of the newly constructed building where the signal was interrupted by the building materials; concrete, steel and tinted glass.
THE BUSINESS BENEFITS
The installation provided enhanced inbuilding coverage of mobile networks. Mobile devices now work in the target coverage areas (TCA). The main lobby and Emergency departments were covered as well as the lift lobbies on 10 floors.
