The Golden Centre Mall which is located on the main street of Dunedin underwent a $5million refurbishment. Renovating the centre from top to bottom with very little staying the same.

BUSINESS NEEDS

The issue was that the area being developed was an underground carpark/basement area. An LTE site survey was carried out at specific points around the Site. Consequently, no signal was received in the area for all three major carriers.

THE CHALLENGE

The Shopping mall was going through a large-scale redevelopment to cater for new national and international clients, about to take up residency. There was a condition on the new lease, that there was suitable cellphone signal available from all 3 NZ carriers on site. It was deemed a Health & Safety risk if this was not available.

INSTALLATION CHALLENGES

The new facility was located on the basement floor of the Golden Centre car park on Filluel St, Dunedin. The building site was a typical car parking structure consisting of steel reinforced concrete risers, beams and floors.

Timeframes were also a major factor, the client had a deadline of only a few weeks, so the site had to be surveyed, designed, equipment ordered and installed in only a matter of weeks.

The installation was carried out over the weekend to ensure our Remote Networks install team slotted into the construction process seamlessly. There were trades booked in for concrete cutting, painting, hardware install, which we had to workaround.

SOLUTION

The system was carefully designed, particularly as it was the first multi-carrier solution installed in New Zealand. The location was in the CBD, and there is going to be a high number of users, the GO2 system was picked to ensure enough capacity was provided. Providing both a 3G & 4G signal for each carrier, concurrently supporting voice and mobile internet for multiple mobile devices.
